Madurai Railway Station – Madurai

#travelwithgdp Fact: The word Madurai may be derived from Madhura (sweetness) arising out of the divine nectar showered on the city by the Hindu god Siva from his matted hair. Another theory is that Madurai is the derivative of the word Marutham, which refers to the type of landscape of the Sangam age.

Description: Travelling on local trains is always tough but imagine traveling in a sleeper train which moves at 10 km/hr (not exaggerating) and in the peak sweltering monsoon. But reaching Madurai definitely gave us the inner peace that we had covered 1/3 of the journey that we had proposed to at the start. At this point when the pictures were taken, I was dreading the enormous amount that the Autowala’s would charge us. But thank God our stay was only a km away so we were able to walk it from the station itself.
